The Mahlia-Kond live in the area of Orissa in the north-east of India. From the middle of the 19th till the beginning of the 20th century nomadic blacksmiths manufactured these
statues for the Kond in cire perdue (lost wax)
technique. This piece
might not be from the Khond, but from another group in the tribal-belt
of Orissa
The core is made out of clay.
